first_imgJamaica’s Reggae Boyz, lost 3-1 to Peru in an international friendly in Arequipa Tuesday night.The Theodore Whitmore coached Reggae Boyz is preparing for this summer’s Caribbean Cup and Gold Cup.They were outclassed by the high-pressing Peruvians who opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Christian Cueva played a through ball to Paolo Guerrero who shot at goal. Goalkeeper Andre Blake parried the ball and the rebound fell to Edison Flores, who made no mistake from close range.Jamaica took a long time to settle and was guilty of wayward passing in the first half. The hosts would double their lead in the 44th minute after Renato Tapia, who was left unmarked on a corner kick and headed the ball past Blake.Peru continued to press in the second half forcing Jamaica to concede several corner kicks. It didn’t take long for the pressing to pay off as Paolo Guerrero, who after coming off because of a bloody nose, returned to the field of play and was almost immediately put through to slot home past Blake to make it 3-0 in the 59th minute.Jamaica’s consolation came from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.Owein Gordon drove into the box and was hit in the face by an errant arm from Nilson Loyola. The referee showed Loyola a yellow card and awarded Jamaica a penalty. Jermaine Johnson then calmly put the ball past Jose Carvalho.Jamaica will turn its attention to the Caribbean Cup in Martinique where they play French Guiana in the first semi-final on June 22 at 6:00pm while Curacao will take on Martinique at 8:30pm.The title will be decided on June 25 at 7:30pm.last_img read more

Broward County Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Schedule

Online payment services will still be available. A few clarifications and exceptions to office closings are as follows:–Broward County Library branches with regularly scheduled Sunday hours will close at 6PMon Sunday, December 24th and remain closed through Monday, December 25th. For New Year’s Day, those Broward County Libraries with regularly scheduled Sunday hours will close at6PM on Sunday, December 31st and remain closed through Monday, January 1, 2018. The NSU-Alvin Sherman Library will be open on Sunday, December 24th and Sunday, December 31st from 7:30AM until 8PM; they are closed Monday, December 25th and Monday, January 1, 2018. Customers can visit the County Library’s website or download the Libraries’ free mobile app, BCL WOW, to search the online catalog, place holds, and renew selected materials.– All Broward County regional and neighborhood parks, nature centers and natural areas, with the exception of Everglades Holiday Park, will be closed on Christmas Day. According to Jamaica’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., his Ministry began the preliminary process and will be seeking the input of the Diaspora to make this conference a success.Seeking the Diaspora’s inputAddressing members of the U.S. Diaspora at its inaugural summit at the Morrow Convention Center in the city of Morrow, Georgia, Minister Charles pointed out the US Summit is a precursor to next year’s Biennial Diaspora conference in Jamaica. He said the Diaspora’s input is being sought in the total planning of the  conference so that its voice will form part of the programs and events that will be implemented.The Minister said the conceptualization of this Summit was timely and visionary as it placed Diaspora interests on the “center stage. It presents an opportunity to further cement intra-Diaspora partnerships with the national goals in sight.” The Junior Minister told the over 200 participants that any formulation of a strategic Diaspora Development plan should be inclusive where it brings together the Jamaican organizations, associations, taskforces and those who may not be affiliated with any group.  It should also entail strong partnerships and co-operation across a wide spectrum at the local and national levels. Diaspora Youth Councils The Plan, he further stated, should embrace mutuality, that is, it should serve the interests of all parties involved such as the millennials. “I intend to lead the establishment of Diaspora Youth Councils so that the young people will have a functional space to craft ingenious strategies and programs for their own empowerment.  I also wish to expand the Birthright Program by giving youngsters the opportunity to experience Jamaica in terms of the work environment and culture. Another 63 people died, bringing the total to 3,943. The 45 deaths per day averaged over the last week is a 50% jump since three weeks ago. Statewide, 380 patients were reported as newly admitted to hospitals, a single-day record. The event was scheduled to start a week after Florida reported a single-day record of 11,445 cases. Jackson’s third annual event was set to be held Saturday and Sunday (June 11-12) in his hometown of Pompano Beach, Florida, but a spokesperson told news outlets Tuesday that the event was canceled. Jackson shared a flyer of the event on Instagram Monday, advertising flag football and water slides.
