Bordeaux 1-1 Liverpool: Late goal cancels out Adam Lallana strike to deny Brendan Rodgers a much needed win

first_img Adam Lallana 1 Liverpool were denied a vital win after a late Bordeaux equaliser cancelled out a bit of Adam Lallana magic.Liverpool struggled in the first half with the only chance of note coming from a thunderous effort from Philippe Coutinho, which rattled the post.Lallana scored midway through the second half to put the Reds ahead but, with ten minutes left, Jussie levelled for the French side.A draw away to Bordeaux cannot be seen as a bad result although it will do nothing to ease the pressure on Rodgers.Coutinho nearly gave Liverpool a dream start as he and Divock Origi linked on the edge of the Bordeaux area but the Brazilian dragged his shot just wide of the left-hand post.Down the other end, Bordeaux had the best chance of the game when they broke quickly to catch Joe Gomez out of position only for Diego Rolan to lift the ball over Simon Mignolet and also the bar. There was another chance for the hosts as Nicolas Maurice-Belay made the most of Jordan Ibe’s lack of tracking back to find Wahbi Khazri, whose left-footed shot whistled past the post.  Origi had the chance to take the lead for the Reds but he scuffed his shot wide when through one-on-one. Fortunately for the Belgian an offside flag saved his blushes. On the stroke of half time Coutinho almost scored a trademark long-range piledriver but his shot thundered off the post with the goalkeeper beaten.Bordeaux missed a golden chance to take the lead on 65 minutes when Enzo Crivelli failed to react quickly enough and missed an open goal – and what a costly miss it was.Liverpool went straight down the other end to score as Lallana nutmegged one before calmly slotted the ball into the corner. It was his first goal of the season to give the Reds the lead, albeit somewhat against the run of play.Bordeaux looked to get back in it and an acrobatic Crivelli volley would have done it but, fortunately for Rodgers’ men, Mignolet was equal to it.But they could not hold on when Crivelli was given far too much time to juggle the ball in the box before laying off to Jussie who slammed the ball into the roof of the net in the 81st minute. And despite the best efforts of both sides to nick a winner, that is how the game ended, with Liverpool heading back to England with a hard-earned point.last_img read more
