Deadline extended for 8th Annual Fort St. John Community Awards

General admission is $30.00 a piece.The 8th Annual Community Awards will be held at the Lido Theatre, 10156 100 Avenue, on April 16, 2015. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. “I’m sure there are some more people in the community have somebody in mind that they would like to nominate – maybe they just missed the deadline,” says Recreation Manager Kylah Bryde. “The new deadline to submit a nomination package is Friday March 20, 2015.“If people sneak them in over the weekend, that’s probably good too,” says Bryde.- Advertisement -Categories for this year’s award ceremony include the Cultural Award, Recreation Award, Literacy Award, Humanitarian Award, Youth Award, and the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year.Each category can be entered as an individual or group – except for the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year.“The Mayor chooses a person who has represented our community on a higher level stage and brought attention back to our community in a positive way,” says Councillor Byron Stewart.Advertisement Byrde explains the qualities sought after for an award nominee.“It doesn’t have to be someone huge,” Bryde goes on to say. “So it can be your favourite coach or your teacher; I think maybe if we just bring it down a notch, we all know somebody that does countless volunteer hours or just that extra support in the community.”This is the third year the award ceremony is being held at the Lido Theatre.A nomination package can be found on the city’s webpage, at City Hall, the North Peace Leisure Pool, the Pomeroy Sport Centre, and the Lido Theatre.Advertisementlast_img read more
