Coming off a thrilling 23-21 victory over Nebraska, the Wisconsin football team is looking to keep their momentum going in the Big Ten against the struggling Purdue team Saturday. Here are three questions to consider for the matchup with the Boilermakers. What will Wisconsin’s backfield look like?As if there weren’t already enough question marks surrounding Wisconsin’s running game, there are now even more as the weekend approaches. To start, redshirt freshman back Taiwan Deal is out with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable as of Thursday. Additionally, junior tailback Corey Clement — who has been sidelined following sports hernia surgery — has not been officially ruled out for Saturday’s game yet.Should Clement return, he would be a few weeks ahead of schedule, but it is more likely the team doesn’t rush their prized runner back onto the field. But should both Deal and Clement be ruled out of Saturday’s outing, redshirt junior Dare Ogunbowale would be in line to potentially see more touches than he has had all season and be a true lead running back for the Badgers.Linebacker-turned-tailback Alec Ingold would also be in for more work out of the backfield, but he is coming off a performance against Nebraska where he ran just eight times for 16 yards.Football: Class of 2016 running back Antonio Williams de-commits from WisconsinAs one of the earliest verbal commits to the Wisconsin football team’s 2016 recruiting class, Antonio Williams could hardly contain Read…Will Schobert return to dominance? After putting up huge defensive numbers in Wisconsin’s first five games of the season, senior linebacker Joe Schobert fell back to earth a bit against Nebraska, managing just four total tackles against the Cornhuskers last week.Schobert, however, still leads the team in total tackles with 40 and his 13.5 tackles for loss are by far the highest on the team, with junior linebacker Vince Biegel’s 7.5 tackles for loss ranking second best.Additionally, Schobert’s nine sacks on the season are good for second-best in the country, and with a matchup against a Purdue team UW defenses have been able to shut down year after year, look for the outside linebacker to return to his dominant ways.Football: Defense ready to avoid letdown against BoilermakersThere will be no letdown Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium when Purdue takes on Wisconsin — at least not on Read…Can two-minute drill Stave be 60-minute drill Stave?Fora majority of UW’s game against Nebraska, starting quarterback Joel Stave was rather unimpressive. But with just over a minute left in the game and the Badgers down by one, Stave stepped up when his team needed him to the most.In just over 50 seconds, Stave marched Wisconsin down the field, throwing crisp, accurate passes to get the team within field goal range and setting UW up for the win. It made up for his struggles earlier in the game, but still was not enough to put Badger fans at ease. This is not anything new for the quarterback, as time after time he has played at his most efficient level in the two-minute offense. But now, if the Badgers want to improve their level of effectiveness on offense for the remainder of the season, they will need Stave to play with poise and accuracy for 60 minutes, rather than just two.
By BEN HARRISNSW Scorpions and NSW Mets are on a collision course for top spot of the women’s Elite Eight division. The two remain the only undefeated teams in the group after two days of the 2014 X-Blades National Touch League at Coffs Harbour. They will meet each other in the final round on Friday and it could well be the match that decides pole position in the women’s open competition.Could being the key word. The Mets’ finals credentials will be tested as they take on teams in second and third positions on day three. They will meet Queensland Outlaws in the sixth round at 10.30am and follow it up by playing the Scorpions, who should beat NSW Rebels at 9.40am, if previous results are anything to go by.Mets’ could be without Australia women’s open player Ash Quinlan who was carried off in Mets’ 7-5 win over Queensland South Stingrays. The Scorpions had wins over Stingrays (9-6) and Outlaws (7-5) to trail Mets on percentages. The Outlaws went down twice on Thursday, which has put them in danger of missing out on the top four if they fail to fire on day three. They lead a long list of teams who are jockeying for the final two semi spots. The Stingrays remain fourth despite losing twice while The Alliance and Queensland Chiefs are in the hunt.Last year’s runners-up, the Chiefs, put their disastrous day one performance behind them to win twice on day two.Rebels are not totally out of it of the semi-finals but it will be a long shot, while NSW Country Mavericks’ campaign is over.No doubt the highlight on day three in the women’s competition will be the match between the Scorpions and the Mets, which will most likely decide top spot. The game taps-off at 3pm.You can keep up-to-date with all of the latest news and information from the 2014 X-Blades National Touch League in the following ways:Websiteswww.ntl.mytouchfooty.comwww.austouch.com.auSocial MediaFacebook – www.facebook.com/touchfootballaustraliaTwitter – www.twitter.com/touchfootyaus (be sure to use the hashtag #NTL2014)Instagram – www.instagram.com/touchfootballaustraliaYouTube – www.youtube.com/touchfootballausRelated LinksWomen’s Elite Eight day two

The German national men’s football team have begun life after an embarrassing outing at the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Russia with a draw against France, according to DFB.de.The Die Mannschaft held the current world champions to a goalless draw at the Allianz Arena in Germany. After much debate, Joachim Low decided to stick with majority of the team that underperformed in Russia with Manuel Neuer started between the sticks for Germany, behind a back four of Matthias Ginter, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Antonio Rüdiger. Joshua Kimmich started at defensive midfield with Leon Goretzka and Toni Kroos in front of him.Thomas Müller, Timo Werner and Marco Reus completed the starting XI as a front three. The German side started with purpose and soon got on the front foot, albeit without creating a clear-cut chance. For the majority of the half, the teams were in deadlock and headed into the changing rooms for half time with no more than a couple of shots on target to reflect on.Top 5 Bundesliga players to watch during the weekend Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 11, 2019 With the international activity cooling down for the next month, we go back to the Bundesliga’s Top 5 players to watch next weekend. The German…Low’s team continued to try to carve out opportunities in the wider areas but they couldn’t open up the French defence with the crucial final pass. In the 34th minute, for example, Rüdiger nearly got on the end of a dangerous cross from Kroos before Olivier Giroud tested Manuel Neuer with a header at the other end. The captain then parried a Kylian Mbappé free-kick from 20 metres out in the 43rd minute. The last chance of the first half fell to the world champions as a heel flick from Giroud went wide of the goal.Didier Deschamps’ French team started the second half as the better side as an Antoine Griezmann shot was saved by Neuer (48’). Timo Werner then tested Areola’s reflexes in the French goal from an acute angle (57’). Neither team could create many clear opportunities in front of goal with much of the game being contested in midfield. The next chance also fell to Griezmann, who attempted a shot from long distance (64’). At the other end, Areola spectacularly denied Reus with a fingertip save around the post (65’).A lack of cutting edge from both sides saw their first competitive meeting since 2016 end in a goalless stalemate.
Luis Enrique has given credit to Real Madrid as the core of the Spanish national team after their 6-0 demolition of Croatia. However, the new Spain manager maintained his team is a United front irrespective of where the players ply their trade.“It doesn’t make sense to compare national teams and club sides,” the former Barcelona boss said after the Nations League clash.“We have our idea of playing football and today everything went wonderfully. We started with some doubts, but after that, we were brilliant and scored some incredible goals.“We were very effective. We want to get back to how good we were before. What I’ve liked most in these 10 days is the attitude of the players.Zidane reveals Sergio Ramos injury concern for Real Madrid Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Zinedine Zidane has put Sergio Ramos’ availability for Real Madrid’s trip to Sevilla next weekend in doubt after withdrawing him against Levante.“From what I’ve seen, regardless of the results, I’m delighted. When I hear my name sung, I feel proud, but it’s the players who deserve it. Still, I appreciate it.“There are many things to improve on. Everything can change in a day. I’m not one of those who exaggerate in victory or martyr in defeat.“I’m looking for balance. I didn’t know there were six Real Madrid players in the XI, neither do I care;“They play for the Spanish national team, that’s it. They don’t play for one team or another. Our base is from Real Madrid and it looks good to me.“No-one from Barcelona? I only see a shirt, the national team’s one. Qualification? We still have to beat England and Croatia again.
